Offshore Wind Farms Now Power Eleven Million European Homes
New capacity figures show offshore wind passing a symbolic threshold — helped along by turbines taller than the Eiffel Tower.
The newest turbines stand 260 metres tall to blade tip — tip height above the Eiffel Tower's antennas — and each rotation powers a home for a day and a half.
The arithmetic of the milestone: 11 million homes, roughly the households of three mid-sized countries, now draw their equivalent consumption from North Sea and Atlantic wind.
Grid operators caution that calm weeks still require backup, which is why the same announcements included three new undersea interconnectors and a very large battery contract.
