San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic has publicly filed for a stock market listing in what is projected to be one of the largest initial public offerings in United States history. The move serves as a critical test of the financial sustainability of the broader artificial intelligence sector, which has seen trillions of dollars in investment over recent years.

The company, founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei after he left OpenAI, will list under the ticker symbol ANT. Analysts and investors have valued the firm at more than $1.5 trillion. Although Anthropic confidentially filed with US financial regulators in June, the public release of its prospectus provides the first detailed look at its financial health amid swirling questions about a potential AI bubble.

Revenue figures disclosed in the filing reveal explosive growth. The company reported $41 million in revenue for 2023, rising to $386 million in 2024, and surging to $4.585 billion in 2025, an increase of more than 1,000 percent. In just the first six months of 2026 alone, Anthropic generated $16.286 billion. As of the end of June, the company had raised a total of $141.1 billion.

Despite this rapid top-line growth, the company disclosed a net loss of $80 billion for the first half of 2026. This disparity highlights the immense costs associated with building and maintaining advanced AI infrastructure. The firm has incurred $6.2 billion in debt while spending billions annually on computing power provided by third-party providers.

Unlike some competitors that focus heavily on everyday consumers, Anthropic has prioritized business clients. Its flagship product, the Claude chatbot, offers text generation, coding, and cybersecurity capabilities tailored for enterprise use. As of September 30, Anthropic reported more than 14,000 enterprise customers, including 11,900 generating at least $100,000 in revenue, more than 1,900 generating at least $1 million, and approximately 250 generating over $10 million annually.

The prospectus contains bold predictions regarding the technology's impact. Executives described the potential of AI agents, or semi-autonomous chatbots that perform tasks for users, as creating a "country of geniuses in a datacenter" available to every sector of the economy. They argue that AI is one of the most consequential technologies in human history.

However, the filing also outlines significant risks across more than 90 pages. A substantial portion of revenue comes from a limited number of customers, with the top five accounting for a quarter of total revenue. While no single customer represents more than 10 percent of the business, losing key accounts could severely impact finances.

Safety and misuse of the technology pose further threats. The company warned that its most capable models could assist malicious actors in developing dangerous weapons. It noted that technical safeguards are incomplete and may be circumvented. Additionally, Anthropic disclosed a large-scale cyber-attack in September 2025 by a Chinese state-sponsored group that manipulated its Claude Code tool to target global institutions.

Political factors also present challenges. Anthropic has been involved in a dispute with the Trump administration over the use of its products in warfare, resulting in its designation as a supply chain risk. This status prevents military agencies from contracting with the company, a designation Anthropic is currently challenging.
